HONORING A GLOBAL CITIZEN

As an undergraduate at UCSD, Chris spent a year at the University of Göttingen in Germany through the Study Abroad Program, an experience that profoundly influenced the direction of his life. His family and friends believe the best way to honor his memory is to give the opportunity to live and study abroad to other deserving students.

ABOUT CHRISTOPHER B. BORTON

Chris was born in New York City on February 12, 1965 and died on June 14, 1996 after a brief but valiant battle against cancer. During his childhood he lived in New York, Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), Los Baños (The Philippines), Menlo Park and Davis, California, and traveled on five continents. Chris graduated from Davis High School and did his undergraduate work at the University of California at San Diego (Class of 1988, Computer Science and German Literature). He pursued graduate study at the University of Amsterdam and the University of California at Berkeley. Chris’ professional career included programming as an independent contractor and founder of Magnetic Frisbees, work with KPMG and the University of Amsterdam. With two colleagues from the Netherlands he co-founded Storm Technology, a pioneering company in the area of image processing and JPEG compression. He was an avid musician and folk dancer who modeled himself after Tigger from Winnie the Pooh, a wonderful son and brother who maintained a broad network of friends from around the globe.

Those who knew him will remember Chris as the perfect international ambassador - kind, curious, empathetic, generous, open to experience, and quick with his inimitable laugh.
